Part of the Myall Lakes National Park and located at the southern end of the Barrington Coast lies beautiful Broughton Island. With camping access only accessible by boat, the campsite features 3 platforms and 2 grass style spots located on Little Poverty Beach. There are no public moorings near the campsite (only private) so you either need to anchor for the night or head to the public moorings at North Beach and Coal Shaft Bay and walk across.
The snapper fishing is what brought us here on a winters weekend but little did we know we’d be greeted with whales, seals, penguins and endless views that had vibes of the coastlines of Capri and the Greek islands located right here in Port Stephens. Broughton Islands main attraction is the water & the perfect spot for swimming, fishing, exploring the islands & it’s coves and for those brave enough, diving at the Looking Glass Isle amongst Grey Nurse sharks.
Back on land you’ll find walking tracks to wild beaches and stunning lookouts. Explore the sparkling waters of Esmerelda cove, Coal Shaft Bay lookout and the glistening white sands of Providence Beach. Winter made a beautiful time to explore this gem and we can’t wait to explore it in the summertime.
