Aitutaki Day Trip

A 45-minute scenic flight from Rarotonga had us day tripping to the most bluest lagoon I’ve ever seen – Aitutaki, the Cook Islands!

Whilst the 6-hour lagoon cruise is the highlight of the tour, a short drive across the main island of Aitutaki did give us a glimpse of what a stay on the island would have been like. Known as the honeymoon island, we found the day trip was the perfect way to island hop around the magnificent lagoon but I can see exactly why this place attracts many for a longer stay, especially those looking for a remote island escape.

The day tour includes transfers and return flights from Rarotonga to Aitutaki, a bus tour of Aituktai onboard ‘Le Truck’, a magnificent 6 hour boat cruise, a barbecued lunch served on board, live music & cultural demonstrations, swimming, snorkelling and stops at the many beautiful white-sand motu (small islets) the lagoon has to offer including the most iconic One Foot Island.

One Foot Island was a beautiful swim stop and has one of the worlds most remote post office where you can get a pretty cool passport stamp in the shape of a foot! If passport stamps are your thing, it’s worth bringing your passport as the airport in Aitutaki don’t stamp it for you.

We stopped on what I think is the most whitest sand island I’ve ever seen – Honeymoon Island!

A snorkel stop with a Giant Trevally.

Our day trip to Aitutaki had come to an end but what a beautiful place!
