I was plummeting to the earth below, not able to breath as the air forced my face into a panic until I remembered to breathe through my nose. The views were spectacular as a lever was pulled and the air ripped us upwards fast and we spiralled to the landing spot below.
Three days earlier….
We arrived in the picturesque town of Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland greeted by ambiguous amounts of toblerone, waterfalls and luscious green scenery. Our busabout guide had explained the optional extras we could join whilst in town like canyoning and tandem skydiving. There was no way I could ever sky dive – I was afraid of everything! even roller coasters and waterslides.

We checked into our little cabin & spent the day exploring the cutest town. We walked to Staubbach falls, so picturesque it can be seen from many places whilst walking around Lauterbrunnen and would have to be the signature waterfall of the valley. Next, we visited the powerful Trummelbach Falls, a series of waterfalls inside a mountain, falling at spectacular speeds. You do have to pay for entry but I must say that it is worth it!

We spent the night at the swiss restaurant onsite where we enjoyed rosti, cheese fondue & local swiss beer – yum! It was amazing falling asleep to the sound of the waterfall that towered above us.

The day awoke us with low cloud cover and drizzle had set in. Wade joined the canyoning day tour and I spent the day with Catherine, Nicky & Rhiannon that I met on busabout. We caught the train to Interlaken where we explored the town, sampling local made chocolates and walking along the river banks but the rain had unfortunately set in so we didn’t get to experience the place as we had liked to. That night was spent partying amongst crazy contiki goers in what was known as the bunker.

On the morning we were due to leave Lauterbrunnen to head to our next Switzerland destination, we awoke to beautiful clear blue skies. Wade really wanted to skydive in the Swiss alps & we also didn’t get the chance to head up to the mountains. Our busabout guide called up Outdoor Interlaken and confirmed that sky diving flights would go ahead so we decided to skip the bus and spend an extra day in Lauterbrunnen, Rhiannon joining us. As we were up early and their skydive wasn’t until the afternoon, we took the cable car up to the town of Murren for a wander before proceeding to the summit of the Schilthorn which provided the most beautiful views – we were truly lucky with the weather!!

We caught the train into Interlaken to meet our transfer to Outdoor Interlaken. Wade & Rhiannon signed their declaration forms and I came along in the van to watch! As we continued down the road, I was staring at the beautiful scenery out the window then the words escaped my mouth… ‘Can I skydive too?’

It was the most amazing experience and the best day of my life hands down! I surprisingly had no fear. The view from the small plane was beautiful & it was great hearing life stories from our adrenaline junky tandem jumping friends. No sooner than later, Rhiannon left the plane door then Wade followed suit. With my legs dangling on the side of the plane, I was next! After our free fall, the parachute was pulled and we slowly floated down, taking in the beautiful scenery around us. A few spirals to slow down the pace we had landed safely back – what an experience! After our skydive, we went to the train station & purchased train tickets to Lucerne so we could meet back up with the Busabout bus… Adrenaline was pumping for days!
