Day trip to the Palace of Versailles

Getting out of the city, we booked a tour to the Palace of Versailles. We met our guide at the train station, boarded our train and arrived in the city of Versailles. Exploring the fresh produce markets, we purchased baguettes, fresh deli meats and additions to enjoy for lunch. Our tour included a skip-the-line entrance as we entered in a back gate directly into the gardens.

With a 2 hour guided walking tour of the beautifully manicured gardens, I feel we got the best experience in the gardens. We explored the great Grand Canal, the Queens Grove and the Ballroom as our guide explained the history of the palace & the royal family. We explored the fountains, those featuring Apollo & Neptune and watched as the fountain display danced like magic to the music. We enjoyed a peaceful lunch on the edge of the Grand Canal before venturing up to the Palace.

Quite frankly it all went down hill from there. The gardens were beautiful. It almost felt we had the whole place to ourselves. The palace, on the other hand, was where all the people must of been hiding. The palace was absolutely packed – I have never seen so many people in the one place. As amazing as the palace was, I viewed the most famous rooms like the Opera of Versailles, the Hall of Mirrors and the Chapel before running, trying to push past the crowds of people and the masses of cameras as I overcome an anxiety attack – and that was the end of that tour for me.
